Does your child know how to throw a Frisbee? Now is a good time to practice. This is a very inexpensive way to get a great full body workout while socializing at the same time but for kids there is even a bigger benefit. While organized Frisbee games are wonderful just the simple act of throwing a Frisbee back and forth with a friend is extremely worthwhile. Here’s why:
His agility will increase from jumps, quick turns and throws. But the real benefit for kids is the action of his arm crossing his midline as he throws the Frisbee. This motor action is very beneficial for brain development as every time time the midline is crossed (the right hand reaches left or the left hand reaches right), our two brain hemispheres communicated with each other and bilateral coordination is enhanced. This is essential for cognitive development and enhances reading, writing and many other learning and physical skills. He will also strengthen his core stability as trunk rotation required for throwing, this core strengthen is is another very important piece of childhood development. And, yes, you guess it… none of these benefits are realized in front of a video game device. (with the possible exception of Wii Dance!).
