This is about the coolest thing ever! When I saw this in a friends neighborhood I just had to stop and take a picture. The concept is to leave a book and take a book for your neighborhood to share. Obviously getting/building the library house takes more than 30 minutes but your kids can participate in the whole planning process and then be in charge of checking on it and adding books. All the info is on the Little Free Library website and worth the consideration for a perfect summer project for your kids. If dad or grandpa or mom can help out the site offers building plans. If you can’t build one the site offers houses for sale (neighborhood fund raising skills may be required!).
Over the next few weeks I will be writing more about the importance of reading and how the benefits go way beyond what you may think. When your child learns to love to read at an early age he is developing his brain for future learning and providing a foundation for success in the way he thinks and relates to people for the rest of his life. I will dive into that more later but for now, check out this awesome idea and put a Little Free Library up in your neighborhood this summer!
