Okay, I know that this is not an official outdoor activity… but I want to remind everyone that while we don’t need to spend lots of money or time on expensive outings, arcades and other indoor sports activity centers, it is good to get a change of pace and change of temperature every now and then. The summer heat is great don’t get me wrong, but it is great to go bowling where they can get the added benefit of extra developmental skills.
So what is so great about bowling? First of all your kids are moving. While they are unplugged from their technology and media they are also using their brain to work on their motor skills, concentration, focus, eye hand coordination and most importantly social skills. I love that bowling offers the opportunity to have conversations when you are waiting for your turn unlike going to a move where no one can really talk. I also love that the competition skills are there for the whole family as all ages can play together. Another benefit is that you can’t bowl and talk on a phone or text at the same time, so just leave the device at home. Don’t even bring it along.
Finally the best news, most places have free bowling in the summer for kids! Check out this link https://freesummergames.amf.com/. It just doesn’t get much better than that!
