I know it may feel a little dangerous for mom, but tree climbing (or climbing anything) it is a childhood developmental milestone and is a skill that your child should practice on a regular basis. This takes some practice and chances are that if he doesn’t spend much time outside he has never gotten a lot of practice climbing. If you don’t have a good climbing tree in your yard go to a park ideally with some challenging climbing activities; the toddler playground won’t cut it. Check out your local climbing center if you can’t find a tree.
Developmentally speaking climbing is good many things including your child’s confidence. The vestibular system (inner ear) is activated with climbing and gross motor skills are developed. Is your child a good climber? Is he afraid? Think about more ways to increase his opportunities to climb this summer; this is a skill worth developing for all ages.
