One of the most fun outside things your child can do is bike riding! Every boy needs to master the skill of riding bikes with friends. It accomplishes so many developmental tasks: balance, coordination, social skills, accomplishment, goal setting and confidence. Bike riding builds neuronal pathways that will benefit him for a lifetime and the skinned knees will build his toughness. The sunshine is wonderful too!
If your child doesn’t know how to ride a two wheel bike, now is the time. Check your child’s bike and helmet now to make sure he hasn’t outgrown them. Make sure the bike is in good working order and send him on his way! I recommend a few caution cones out front to warn the traffic if he is young. If he is older check out your local youth cycling club. If you have a bike, investigate some local trails for a perfect family activity. If your child doesn’t like to ride it may be because he is not good at riding, practice will help that. Finally, your child should be better at riding his bike than playing a video game. Encourage him to call a friend and get out and do some exploring on his bike this week!
