There are so many great things about backyard camping that it’s hard to get your head around all the benefits! When my friend sent me this camping photo I had to post it. I am behind on our backyard camping experience this summer but we will get to it soon!
As you already know, ATM (Attachment, Touch, Movement) is very critical to child development. Camping is awesome because it usually involves all of these elements. The attachment, one-on-one time is perhaps the strongest benefit.
Time: You can’t fool your kids, they know when you are paying attention to them or your phone or other technology. It is hard to not be emotionally and physically available to your kids when you are camping.
Common goal: You are out of the house and working on a task together to get the tent up. People who work on a common goal together grow closer.
Family connections: This group effort provides deep rooted family connections and a bond that will be remembered. Communication opens up in this shared outdoor time and it is very different from the communication in our normal day to day life.
Nature: Sleeping in tents together under the stars brings an appreciation for the outdoors and all the blessings that being close to nature brings.
Fun: Most kids will trade tent time with dad or brothers for tech time so leave the technology in the house. Don’t bring phones, tablets or other devices to the tent.
Do you have a tent? It is a good investment. Camp grounds are great but try the back yard, it is easier and more fun than you think!
